Step 01 of 40: Save Excel Workbook
This step illustrates how to save an Excel Template (.xltx) as an Excel workbook (.xlsx).
- Access the File Menu: Start by clicking on the 'File' tab on the top left of the Excel ribbon to access the backstage view, where you can manage your file and settings related to the document you are working on.
- Choose Save As: Within the File menu, select the 'Save As' option. This is where you can specify the name and location of your Excel workbook file.
- Browse for Location: Click on the 'Browse' button to open the Save As dialog box, which allows you to navigate through your computer's folders to choose a save destination for your file.
- Select Save Destination: The Save As dialog box is open, and 'Desktop' is highlighted as the recommended save destination. Saving the file to the Desktop is suggested for ease of access, but it is noted that files should be backed up, for instance, to OneDrive.
- Name Your Workbook: In the file name field, enter a name of your choice for the workbook. This allows you to identify and organize your files efficiently. The example provided in the textbox is 'Manufacturing Budget.xlsx'.
- Set the File Type: Make sure that the 'Save as type' field is set to 'Excel Workbook (*.xlsx)'. This step is crucial because selecting the correct file type ensures that you can submit the work if required, and it maintains the workbook's compatibility with other users who may need to access it.
- Save the File: Finally, click on the 'Save' button to save your Excel workbook. This finalizes the process and stores the file in the location with the name you've provided.
