Step 19 of 40: XLOOKUP Function

This step illustrates how to use the XLOOKUP Function to search a range or an array for a given value.

Written description of the slides

The XLOOKUP Function searches a range or an array for a given value and returns the item corresponding to the first match it finds. In this case, you'll copy cell F1 and paste to cell C1, make the text bold and underlned, and then select cell C2. Enter the =XLOOKUP formula shown in cell C2 and then copy this down to cell C40. The initial argument in the formula, B2, is the lookup_value, which tells formula what to look for. The argument is the lookup_array, which defines the cell coordinates of where to look. The third argument is the return_array, which defines the cell coordinates of what to return.

FYI: The $ creates a mixed reference in Excel where the row numbers are frozen but the column letters change if you copy the formula sideways instead of down.
